Valuations for Insurance Purposes

This is the valuation required by insurance companies for inclusion on a standard household insurance policy.

A valuation for insurance purposes is based on the cost, including GST, to either replace an item with a similar item or the cost to have that item manufactured in the current retail market. This sum takes into account the object’s scarcity, quality, provenance and condition.

Industry standard methodology is employed to ensure that the correct replacement value is ascribed and the correct levels of premium are being paid.

Post Loss Valuations

When an item is damaged, lost or stolen and no formal valuation has been lodged with the insurance company we provide a Post Loss Valuation, providing compensation for loss under existing insurance cover. The item is appraised from either a photograph or a previous valuation and the sum is the retail replacement value.

Our valuations are accepted by all insurance companies and brokers

Valuations for Relationship Property & Estate Division

Valuations are required when family assets are to be divided or sold. Whether for matrimonial separation or the division of an estate, it is important that assets are valued accurately for fair and equitable division.

The basis for valuations for relationship property and estate division is fair market price in the auction/secondary market, less vendor commission and sales costs.

Our valuations provide full inventories of jointly owned art works and rare collectable assets for executors, solicitors and family members.

Institutional Valuations for Financial Reporting

We provide valuations to institutions, public galleries and museums for the purpose of insurance and financial reporting and are specialists in large-scale and complex institutional valuation commissions. NZ IAS 16 and Treasury valuation guidance requires the use of the basis 'fair value'.

We have previously completed valuations for Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, Govett-Brewster Art Gallery and the Len Lye Centre, New Plymouth, The University of Auckland Art Collection, Rotorua Museum, Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, Auckland City Libraries and Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust, Heritage Collection.
